(she/her)
BACKGROUND
Jantine is a PhD researcher in the PLACE project (Participatory Life-course Approaches To Civic Engagement In Later Life). Her qualitative research focuses on the civic engagement of older adults in urban neighbourhoods in Brussels, looking at how they shape their neighbourhood and how life-course events and neighbourhood characteristics play a role in this.
She obtained her master’s degree in Social and Cultural Anthropology at KU Leuven in 2026. Her thesis, based on ethnographic fieldwork, examined the pragmatic practices and politics of volunteers at a food bank in Almere (the Netherlands). Before that, she obtained a bachelor’s degree in Cultural Anthropology and Development Sociology at Utrecht University, where she conducted ethnographic research at a youth work organisation in Belfast into youth workers’ perceptions of the interconnectedness of memory culture, identity and peacebuilding.
