BACKGROUND
Freya started working in 2022 as a PhD researcher at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel on the FWO Strategic Basic Research project: A Lonely Planet? Addressing LONELIness from a PLAce-based perspective: research on the influence of Neighbourhood and environment.
She graduated in 2012 as a Master in the Social Educational Science at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel. After obtaining her master’s degree she started working in her field of expertise. She worked briefly as a home counselor for adults with mental disabilities before she started working as head of department in a subdivision organization for adults with mental disabilities of the Public Welfare Centre of Bruges (OCMW Brugge). As the liaison between practice and policy she translated day to day challenges to the policy and conversely implemented scientific insights, with the additional related policy recommendations into the practice.
