Welcome on the site of the 'Society and Ageing Research Lab' (SARLab)
The Society and Ageing Research Lab from the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB) conducts research on “ageing well in the right place” and responds to emerging, critical challenges in policy and practice concerning older people. Our research themes and projects therefore evolve and adapt to the needs of scientific, policy and stakeholder communities. Our current work can be grouped under 3 social-gerontological research themes: ‘social relations and civic engagement', ‘care and caring communities’, and ‘housing and living environment’. The three research lines are underpinned by 4 common values and visions with recurring elements that characterise our research: importance of the neighbourhood, a life course perspective, focus on exclusion, deprivation and inequality, and participatory research frameworks.
